Technical Marketing Designer, Postmark LOCALPERMANENT

Job Description

Send transactional and marketing emails and get them to the inbox on time, every time. Postmark is a fast and reliable email delivery service for developers!

Postmark (by ActiveCampaign) is a product-led team that truly values design and craftsmanship. We strive to build world-class software that is fast, elegant, delightful, and incredibly polished. This is an exciting opportunity to help grow Postmark and elevate our already-beloved brand. The right candidate is a versatile designer who loves code just as much as visual design, and enjoys using a variety of tools to build effective marketing experiences.

So with that as an intro… we are looking for an experienced Marketing Designer who is not only a strong visual designer, but is also very comfortable working with PHP-based CMSs such as Craft or WordPress. You will lead design projects that drive engagement through the entire customer lifecycle —including web, marketing, and in-app experiences.

The ideal candidate will be highly strategic, data-driven, technical, and adept at using iterative approaches to test designs that address both customer opportunities and business needs. As a technical marketing designer you will be responsible for designing and developing clear and effective marketing experiences and messaging throughout the user journey.

If you’re a technical-savvy human who loves designing great experiences and are equally excited about working in the code to bring your designs to life, you’ll love this multifaceted role. We’re currently not looking for illustrators or brand designers without technical web design experience.

What your day could consist of:

  • Collaborate with marketers and product managers to uncover new ideas and shape product growth.
  • Design user experiences that support engagement through the entire customer lifecycle: from acquisition to paid conversion, all the way through to expansion.
  • Translate data-driven insights into improved brand experiences.
  • Work through design problems from beginning to end, translating business strategy, research insights, and data into crafting exceptional user journeys and production-ready code.
  • Design and code delightful web pages, emails, messaging, and other marketing assets to enhance our brand, connect with potential customers, and encourage acquisition across multiple touchpoints.
  • Support acquisition, activation, retention, and cross-sell across Postmark and the broader ActiveCampaign ecosystem.
  • Use storytelling to delight users and inspire the team and the organization about the team’s vision and the problems we are solving.
  • Create and iterate on wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Implement designs with HTML/CSS/JS across multiple platforms and devices.
  • Working with a data model in Craft, building out a design using Twig, or maybe even writing Craft plugins or modules in PHP (that would be a big plus).
  • Our Technical Marketing Designer is equally comfortable in Figma, the front-end, and back-end of the platform.
  • Providing the team with a smooth editing and publishing experience inside Craft CMS.
  • Committing code to the Git repository, creating and reviewing PRs, and deploying your changes to the live production environment.

What is needed:

  • 5+ years of marketing web design experience and a portfolio showcasing visually rich web and digital marketing deliverables.
  • Experience in a SaaS environment is a plus.
  • Mastery of Figma or Sketch.
  • Experience working with a PHP-based CMS such as Craft or WordPress.
  • Understanding how to write performant queries and, more generally, how to get the most out of Craft.
  • Writing clean and effective Twig code.
  • Knowing when to separate functionality into PHP modules and plugins is a plus.
  • Comfortable with command-line tools.
  • MySQL experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with front-end JS libraries like React is a plus.
  • Enjoy keeping up with CMS updates and the ever-evolving landscape of plug-ins, while staying pragmatic about what to invest your time and energy in.
  • Growth mindset with a drive to improve the user experience.
  • Strong understanding of data and insights to guide hypotheses and design solutions.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working in a remote team is a plus. Capable of formally presenting to an audience in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Online portfolio to reference through the interview process.
